01Survey the shell

Start with the room the college actually provides.

Before choosing bedding colors or storage systems, find the official housing page for your assigned building and room type. Record the mattress size, furniture inventory, floor dimensions, window measurements, bed configuration, closet type, bathroom setup, outlets, lighting, laundry access, and whether the room has air-conditioning. If dimensions are not published, ask housing rather than relying on a student video from a different building.

Then read the prohibited-items list. University rules vary, especially for extension cords, cooking appliances, candles, halogen lamps, fabric wall hangings, adhesive products, and furniture.
