The All Eight Club:

Students Accepted To All Eight Ivy League Colleges

Have you ever wondered what sets apart the exceptional few who achieve the impossible – gaining acceptance to not one, two, or even three, but all eight Ivy League institutions? These individuals are part of an exclusive group that we refer to here at The Ivy Institute as “The All Eight Club." Their achievement is a testament to unparalleled dedication, brilliance, and determination. For many, this journey also includes additional acceptances to prestigious universities like Stanford, MIT, UChicago, and CalTech.

It's no secret that the acceptance rate to Ivy League schools is astonishingly low. In any given year, only about 0.3% of all college applicants gain admission to one Ivy League college. But what about those extraordinary individuals who break all barriers and secure a spot at all eight Ivy League institutions? The answer will leave you in awe – very few students, usually less than four in any given year, can proudly claim this remarkable feat. In some years, there are none at all. Achieving this dream is a rarity, with only 0.0004% of college applicants in the country reaching such heights.

So, who are they - and how did these students cross the steep hurdles of the Harvard, Brown, Yale, Columbia and UPenn acceptance rates, and submit a successful college application to gain entry to the Ivy League colleges?

Ashley Adirika - Harvard

Meet Ashley Adirika, an extraordinary Florida teen who achieved the seemingly impossible dream of being accepted to all eight Ivy League schools! Despite the daunting odds, Ashley fearlessly applied to every single one of them, and on Ivy Day, the magical spring day when the prestigious schools release their admission decisions, she experienced an incredible moment – one acceptance letter after another popping up on her computer screen. Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Penn, Princeton, and Yale all wanted her!

Ashley's journey is a remarkable one. With her mother coming to the US from Nigeria three decades ago, Ashley's accomplishments hold deep significance for her family and herself. Graduating from Miami Beach Senior High School, Ashley now joins a highly exclusive group. Since 2018, each Ivy League school has accepted less than 12% of its applicants, making her achievement even more extraordinary.

Beyond her academic success, Ashley has been a force on her school's debate team and served as a student council president. Her passion lies in exploring policy and social policy to address economic disparities in communities. This passion led her to choose Harvard over Yale, as they offered a better program for her career aspirations.

But Ashley's aspirations go beyond academia. She founded "Our Story Our Worth," an organization dedicated to empowering girls and young women of color through mentorship and sisterhood. Starting in her Miami community, she plans to expand the organization nationwide, making a positive impact far beyond her college campus.

Ashley credits her strong work ethic to the inspiring women in her life, especially her mother, who is a single mom to five children. Her high school graduation speech, where she donned a sash with the words "Black Girl Magic," emphasized the importance of preparation, punctuality, and finding light even in dark times.

Harold Ekeh

With no expectations, New York teenager Harold Ekeh applied to 13 colleges, hoping to "maybe" get into Stony Brook University, about an hour east of his home in Elmont, Long Island.

Then, in recent weeks, the cascade of reply letters came pouring in: Harvard. Yes. Yale. Yes. Princeton. Yes. Not only did he get accepted to all of the schools he applied to, those include all eight Ivy League institutions.

The straight-A student has accomplished the rare feat of getting into all of the nation's Ivies — crediting his parents' work ethic for setting an example and a desire to strive in his adopted homeland after emigrating from Nigeria 10 years ago.

"I find that I’m very over-involved," said Ekeh, counting advanced placement classes and extracurricular activities, such as science research, school plays and being editor-in-chief of his school newspaper, as filling up his time.

Long Island high school senior Harold Ekeh, 17, has been accepted to 13 universities, including all eight Ivy League schools.Meagan Redman

Ekeh joins another Long Island teenager — Kwasi Enin, the first-generation son of Ghanian immigrants — who also was accepted to all eight Ivies last year. Enin chose Yale.

Ekeh, one of five brothers, said that he wants to study biochemistry and become a neurosurgeon. He's inspired by his grandmother, who began showing symptoms of Alzheimer's when he was 11. He wants to find a cure.

"I’m leaning towards Columbia right now because I’d like to stay in New York City for I guess the rest of my career and work at Mt. Sinai," Ekeh said, adding that America has given his family a life they might never have had in Nigeria.

Ronald Nelson

Ronald Nelson faced an incredibly tough decision when it came to choosing a college for his future. The reason behind this was his remarkable achievement of gaining acceptance to all eight Ivy League universities. Despite such prestigious offers, Ronald made a brilliant choice by opting for the University of Alabama and turning down the Ivy League schools.

His decision was motivated by two significant factors: a full ride scholarship offered by the University of Alabama and admission to their selective honors program. Although uncertain initially, Ronald's choice was influenced by the financial implications of attending the Ivy League schools, which do not provide merit-based scholarships. Even though they meet the financial needs of admitted students, the tuition burden would increase significantly after the first year.

Considering his long-term goals, Ronald realized that he could still achieve success and pursue a top medical school or graduate program without attending an Ivy League institution. After careful consideration, he decided that the University of Alabama, with its "Fellows Experience" honors college, would provide him with a supportive environment and opportunities similar to what he would have received at an Ivy League school.

Furthermore, the financial incentives at the University of Alabama were enticing, as they waived his out-of-state fees and covered his tuition costs due to his high standardized-test scores on the SAT and ACT. He also received stipends for additional campus expenses and the potential to study abroad through the fellows program and his National Merit scholarship.

Though some may question his decision to decline prestigious schools, Ronald received overwhelming support for his well-informed choice. He believes that he can create an equally enriching college experience for himself at the University of Alabama and is excited to embark on this new chapter in his academic journey.
