Do we actually need outside help?

This is where many families start—sometimes before they even want to admit they are shopping for a consultant.

Do we actually need a college admissions consultant? Could a very motivated student just do all of this alone? Can our school counselor be enough? Is it too early to start? Are we already too late?

What are you actually going to do with our student?

A real strategy should get more specific as the consultant learns more—not collapse every teenager into the same “leadership + research + passion project” formula.

What happens first when you evaluate a student? What if my student is already very strong? What if the GPA or test score is not ideal? What does “App Identity” actually mean? What if their interests change halfway through?

ROUND 03 · LOOK PAST THE BIOGRAPHIES

Who will really be in the room after we sign?

This is where a polished consultation either becomes a real relationship—or turns into a handoff the family did not expect.

Who actually works with my student? Will the person on this consultation stay involved? Is it one counselor or a whole team? How often would we actually meet? What if my student and counselor do not click?

ROUND 04 · PICTURE A BAD TUESDAY

What happens when the process stops going neatly?

The value of a plan is easiest to see when school gets busy, a student stalls, a draft fails, or an opportunity appears without warning.

What do you do when my student falls behind? Who handles an urgent deadline problem? How are parents kept in the loop? Do you only recommend research/projects—or help execute them? How do we know the student is actually improving?

ROUND 05 · PUT THE PEN ON THE TABLE

How much help becomes too much help?

Families want excellent writing. Colleges want the student. Those goals only work together if the process protects authorship, voice, and truth.

Do you ever write the essay for the student? How do you keep an essay from sounding over-edited? How many essay reviews are included? Who reviews the entire application before submission? How do recommendation letters fit into the strategy?

ROUND 06 · NOW ASK ABOUT THE MONEY

What exactly are we paying for?

Price only becomes useful when the family can translate it into scope, access, limits, accountability, and what happens after the invoice is paid.
